HOW TO CHOOSE A SELF-ADHESIVE TAPE?

Tape Structure: (Most self-adhesive tapes combine backing and adhesive.)
Backing: The materials used as backing are relatively thin and flexible, perfect for coating with adhesive.
Paper: The latter can be composed of a smooth or creped surface. Most of the paper typically used for ribbons is saturation reinforced, a process in which synthetic latex is used to saturate the paper, thereby changing its mechanical and physical characteristics.

The different types of support:
In plastic films: Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene (non-oriented PP, mono-oriented MOPP and bi-axially oriented BOPP), Polyethylene (generally LDPE), Polyester (PETP, commonly called PET).
Fabric: Cotton, polyester or fiberglass.
In foams: thick support, the most common are in polyethylene.
Non-woven fabric: Made of textile fibers; very conformable, it can be easily torn by hand.

The different types of adhesives:
Thermo-fusible adhesive (synthetic rubber base): Produced by thermal fusion and mixture of synthetic resins and thermoplastic rubbers, without solvents.
Solvent Based Adhesive (Natural Rubber Based): Made with natural rubber and resins dissolved in a solvent which is then recovered during coating in special drying ovens and reused for new productions.
Water-based acrylic adhesives: Adhesives obtained by acrylic polymers in aqueous dispersion, which evaporate during coating.
Solvent-based acrylic adhesive: Acrylic polymers are dissolved in solvents and then extracted in suitable ovens during coating

Other components can be used in the manufacture of self-adhesive tapes: Release is a non-stick material applied to the uncoated side of a single-sided tape (the "back") and facilitates unwinding; the primer (glue) improves anchoring and improves the bond between the adhesive and the support.
